In the model series of the new CL the newly developed 8-cylinder engine ensures the most outstanding capability in every driving situation.
The displacement and consumption and in turn the emissions figures have been significantly reduced compared with the predecessor model while also increasing the output. The 8-cylinder unit impresses with a wealth of technological highlights such as direct petrol injection with spray-guided combustion and twin turbochargers.
The CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY with 320 kW develops a maximum torque of 700 Nm and achieves a top speed (electrically limited) of 210 km/h.
In the CL 63 AMG the new AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine achieves an output of 400 kW and a maximum torque of 800 Newton metres. This is made possible by a unique combination of high-tech systems, for example direct petrol injection, twin turbochargers, energy recuperation from braking and the Controlled Efficiency drive programme with stop/start function. A look at the performance diagrams shows that no other engine in this output class achieves the figures delivered by the new AMG biturbo.
Cutting-edge engine technology empowers the CL 600 to rapidly develop its strength. Our top-of-range power unit, the V12 biturbo has a maximum power output of 380 kW and maximum torque rating of 830 Nm. It also displays outstanding response characteristics: the V12 biturbo develops its maximum torque rating from 1800 revolutions per minute and maintains it up to 3500 revolutions per minute. The CL 600 has two turbochargers and intercooling to thank for such excellent values.
To save weight, the cylinder heads are made from die-cast magnesium. 3-valve technology improves airflow and, thanks to dual ignition, further optimises combustion.
