Economic yet powerful; that’s the newly developed E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY. The 4-cylinder in-line engine with direct injection is characterised by its smoothness of operation in all engine speed ranges and has an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and delivers a maximum torque of 310 Nm. Its low consumption figures derive in part from its engine concept with a comparably small displacement of 1.8 litres and turbocharging. The optimised CGI direct injection also helps reduce petrol usage.
A new 225kW 3.5-litre V6 engine combines numerous advances to deliver more torque over a wider range of rpm. Its rapid-multispark ignition fires up to four times per millisecond, while new high-pressure Direct Injection microscopically tunes the fuel spray, reducing emissions, fuel consumption and noise. A lightweight diecast-alloy block, quicker and more widely variable valve timing, reduced friction, and clever “on-demand” ancillary components like the alternator further boost efficiency
The most powerful engine for the E-Class Coupé is the E 500. The V8 engine has an output of 285 kW (388 hp) and develops a maximum torque of 530 Nm in the range between 2800 and 4800 rpm. Just 5.2 seconds are all this engine needs to accelerate the Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h – a peak value.
